Hello there, friends! Today I’m excited to tell you about another L&L Events favored vendor, the very lovely Kara Reade Gomez of Best Face Forward; a vivacious and charming makeup and hair artist/magic maker. I had the pleasure of connecting with her recently and my one wish is that I had met her sooner, she’s a genuine lovebug and total game changer in the DC wedding hair and makeup market.
1. Tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to start your hair and makeup artistry business:
My name is Kara Reade Gomez and I am the Co- Owner (along with my mom) of Best Face Forward- Skin, Makeup & Hair Artists. My mom was a beauty trainer in the industry for many years, so I think I was probably telling people about their pores from the time I was pretty young. I always got compliments on my skin, but never thought much of it through the years. When my husband and I got married, I had a hard time finding what I was looking for- a one stop shop with pros for makeup and hair that would be able to guide me professionally through the wedding beauty process. After the wedding, my wedding photographer encouraged me to put together the team I couldn’t find… I thought he was crazy… but then thought, “what if I can help other brides who were as nervous and anxious as me??” Voila… 4 years later, here we are and we’ve helped close to 200 brides feel their very best!
2. What’s your favorite thing about working with wedding clients and how do you differ from other hair and makeup artists?
I love remembering all the craziness of feelings about my wedding. I see it in every bride’s face and hear it in every email and call. I feel it’s important to provide them some level of understanding and comfort that I wanted (and luckily got from my vendors). Weddings are such a uniquely stressful and emotional time and Brides need a listening ear so they can relax. They need to know that even if they have no clue what’s going on, or what to expect, that we do and will tell them. I feel like that is one of the major things that sets us apart… we started from my own bridal experience. I had a wonderfully smooth wedding day thanks to amazing vendors, and I want to be a piece of their perfect day too. Every girl deserves to remember her big day as unbelievably calm and enjoyable. In addition, I love that our team gets to help them with their skin and makeup questions from the beginning, be there on their big day, and then continue to service them with products they may have liked also. Our full and personalized service from beginning to end allows us to have a long-term relationship with each bride. We don’t just show up on your wedding day and wish you a nice life, never seeing you again.
3. You offer skin assessments as part of your services, why is it so important for you to know that before styling your clients for their events?
Our skin assessment is how we are able to make each service personalized to the client. Every client has different skin concerns, challenges and skin types. We pride ourselves in not only using products to specifically meet each and every need, but educating the bride about those products and their conditions so they never have to worry about them again. Helping a bride (or party member) breaks down walls that may stem from nervousness or embarrassment due to a long-standing concern. We love seeing their confidence increase right before our eyes!
4. What’s your best piece of advice for your future brides and grooms?
That’s a great question! I tell them to make sure they enjoy the big day… don’t worry about the small stuff because the day flies by! Also, make sure to realistically balance your budget needs with the quality level you are seeking in a vendor. When someone asks for a recommendation of “reasonably priced” vendors, I always reply… “Which is more important… reasonable pricing, or a quality vendor?” The best of the best are the best for a reason, and therefore, you probably won’t find them on Craigslist or a Facebook yard sale group.
5. Just for fun! If you could style any famous person in history, who would it be and why?
This is a GREAT question!!! I would totally have done anything to style Princess Diana… I guess it’s fitting that I used to watch her wedding video DAILY!!! Not because I wanted to be a princess, but because I was entranced by the grandeur of that wedding. Still today, there are so many things that are timeless about it! I feel like as she matured she became bolder with her style and she had the most amazing features. Although… I probably would have passed out if I had met her… I tend to freak out a bit when I have spotted celebrities! Hahahaha!!!
